Attorney General William Barr is calling in the big guns.

Barr has enlisted high-profile allies in his investigation into the origins of the Russian probe and controversial surveillance of Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

President Trump has long called for today's move, although he told reporters he never directed Barr to call on colleagues in other agencies to join his investigation.

Here are the unsung heroes assisting Barr. Many of their names are familiar – some may surprise you.

Director of the CIA since 2018, Haspel is the first woman to hold the position on a permanent basis.

Haspel will now juggle reviewing national security risks with determining whether or not political bias motivated the FBI's surveillance of Trump's campaign.

Concerns have circulated among the right since the revelation the FISA warrant granted to surveil Trump aide Carter Page came from information in the uncorroborated Steele dossier.

Federal Prosecutor John Durham's appointment raises the real prospect of criminal charges for ideologues who reportedly spied on the president and his campaign.

Durham is a career prosecutor who made a name for himself taking down the Boston mob led by James "Whitey" Bulger.

Later, he secured the conviction of Republican Connecticut Governor John Rowland for not paying taxes.

The Obama administration tapped Durham in 2009 to investigate the legality of enhanced interrogation techniques.

The 68-year-old is highly-regarded on both sides of the aisle and sufficiently equipped to help determine if intelligence collection involving the Trump campaign violated the law.
