1,600 are suggested daily for FBI's list

Number of names on terrorist watch list at 400,000, agency says Sunday, November 1, 2009   Newly released FBI data offer evidence of the broad scope and complexity of the nation's terrorist watch list, documenting a daily flood of names nominated for inclusion to the controversial list. During a 12-month period ended in March this year, for example, the U.S. intelligence community suggested on a daily basis that 1,600 people qualified for the list because they presented a "reasonable suspicion," according to data provided to the Senate Judiciary Committee by the FBI in September and made public last week. FBI officials cautioned that each nomination "does not necessarily represent a new individual, but may instead involve an alias or name variant for a previously watchlisted person.. » read more

Pelosi Unveils Historic Health Care Reform Bill, Touts Public Option (with video)

Oct. 29, 2009 Some progressives, like Rep. Dennis Kucinich, (D-Ohio), a proponent of a single-payer system, said the bill Pelosi made public Thursday does not go far enough and provides too many concessions to health insurance companies. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled an $894 billion health-care reform bill Thursday that includes a government-run insurance program, otherwise known as (Photo Illustration: Lance Page / t r u t h o u t; Adapted from: Obama-Biden Transition Project, AlbinoFlea / flickr) a "public option," that is stronger than the public plan unveiled earlier this week by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, but still far short of what many progressive and liberal Democrats had expected. Unlike the Senate bill, the legislation touted by Pelosi does not provide individual states with an "opt-out" provision.. » read more

Oct. 24, 2009 Earlier in the week, Chris Matthews attempted to portray Stewart Rhodes of the Oath Keepers as a paranoid conspiracy nut for suggesting the presence of foreign troops in the United States. France’s RAID or Les Hommes en Noir — the Men in Black, appropriate for a militarized police unit.               Matthews, as a supposed news anchor, should read the newswires instead of relying on his CIA Mockingbird script. Spying on Americans: The Bipartisan National Security State

Telecoms Lobby US Congress Oct. 20, 2009 The bipartisan consensus that encourages unaccountable secret state agencies to illegally spy on the American people under color of a limitless, and highly profitable, "war on terror" was dealt a (minor) blow October 13. Federal District Court Judge Jeffrey White denied a motion by the Obama administration that the court issue a 30-day stay to "release records relating to telecom lobbying over last year's debate over immunity for corporate participation in government spying," the Electronic Frontier Foundation reported. The Justice Department had argued that the Bush, and now, the Obama administration's Office of Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and Congress were exempt from releasing lobbying records under the Freedom of Information Act, since consultations amongst said grifters were protected as "intra-agency" records. One might add, since the 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, a well-funded surveillance-industrial-complex fueled by giant defense firms and the telecommunications industry have, as investigative journalist Tim Shorrock reported back in 2005 "fielded armies of lobbyists to keep the money flowing.. » read more
